A Hardware Store?

No. We're not what you would consider a typical hardware store. These already exist, so if you're looking for things that can be found in a home center or warehouse store, please buy them there.

Bolts Hardware Store opened in Kyoto in December of 2009. We sell mainly tools and items for construction and interiors. We deal primarily in items that are related to what might be called "living" such as clothing, food, and shelter. We select excellently designed hardware and tools from inside and outside Japan, and if we can't find something quite right, we also consistently plan, design, manufacture and sell our own original products.

That is to say, the business of design is our essence. In addition to our original products, we aim to assist as much as we can with custom made items or space planning. Let your ideas unfurl!

1. About our original products
Fundamentally, we want to suggest a new set of values. In an age full of a huge variety of products and services, it seems as though "thinking for oneself and then acting" is increasingly less and less required. This is an important thing to realize. For example, rust on iron. This is something that is truly unwanted, isn't it? However, depending on the situation, there are times when a little rust is not a problem, and times when it should be cleaned away. Technologies such as gilding and coatings to prevent rust are truly wonderful things, and they're fine to use. However, this is not the only way. This are our alternate proposed values for our products.

2. About our domestic and internationally selected items
There are many excellent things to be found in the history built by our predecessors. It's very interesting to look the many items that have been designed and created, and to read from them the intentions of the people who designed them. This is the individualistic point of view behind how we choose our stock. While our original products are still not quite enough to fill our store, we want our customers to experience and enjoy a great variety of products when they visit!

3. About custom made items and space planning
We are rewarded by our designing, so we fundamentally work from design. When our clients give us their image, we work to suggest the most suitable thing for them. Sometimes a client tells us, "I'll leave it to you", but this is impossible. We are not artists, and nothing can come from nothing. It doesn't matter what kind of thing it is. What do you want to do?
